Woodlice: 'pleopodal lungs'

Turn a LIVE woodlouse upside down and look on the underside of the pleon (the last 5 legless body segments). The 'pleopodal lungs', if present, are apparent as distinct white dots.

Following preservation in alcohol the contrasting white colour of the 'pleopodal lungs' dissappears (but they can still be found as thickened patches). TAKE CARE with preserved material.
