In some woodlice the pleon (comprising the last five legless segments) is narrower than the pereon (which comprises seven leg-bearing segments) to give a distinctly 'stepped' or 'discontinous' body outline.
In other species, where the sides of the pleon are expanded, the pereon and pleon have a 'smooth' or 'continuous' body outline.
